At some point in our lives everyone of us wonders where we came from. I don't just mean our parents but our ancestors, the people you are historically connected to by blood. Even now a days your family may still carry on the same traditions and faiths, even their last name. 


Studying your geneaology could be complicated because there has been destruction of loss of official documents over years. In order to study your family tree's newest branches, you will need certain information birth, marriage, and death certificates. A genealogy search is easier for a family member to do when they have possession of some of the required information themselves. 


By looking in old family bibles you may find a lot of information including names and dates. Check with the town hall they may have some information that could be useful. More of your geneaology background could be gained by census records, land deeds, or immigration papers. Many small historical communities have an extensive oral history and stories of people and what they accomplished have been passed on from one generation to the next. 


The study of geneaology was originally used to help legitimize claims of wealth handed down to the descendants of noblemen or royalty. Today there are many websites created to help people discover their ancestry. Hobbyists can research their own family's geneaology more quickly than ever. 


Geneaology professionals have written and published books on how to conduct research. They also teach others how to. They work for software companies to create online databases. This makes it a lot easier for the beginner.  


Every one's family has interesting people and stories from the past. Maybe our ancestors were meant to move on, but not to be completely forgotten. That's what the hobby of geneaology is all about, learning about the people that we originated from and maybe coming to a better understanding of ourselves because of it.
